Volunteer With Us!

Calpe Cat Shelter relies entirely on a dedicated, international team of volunteers who want to improve the lives of cats in need within the Calpe area. We are always keen to welcome any new volunteers.

You do not have to live in Calpe permanently! Whether you are a year-round resident, a seasonal expat, or a visitor on holiday with a few hours to spare, we would love to have your help!

  1. Daily Shelter Care

The majority of our volunteers are needed for the daily care of our resident cats. We run 2 shifts every single day:

  • ☀️ The Morning Shift (Most Important):

    • Time commitment: Around 3 to 4 hours for one person (or just 1 to 2 hours if working in a team of two).

    • Tasks: Deep cleaning the entire shelter, washing & replenishing all food and water bowls, and cleaning and scooping the litter trays.

  • 🌙 The Afternoon Shift (Less Demanding):

    • Time commitment: Roughly 30 to 60 minutes for one person.

    • Tasks: A quick check to replenish food and water bowls and empty the litter trays before the shelter closes for the night.

2. Cat Socialisation & Petting

If you love cats but are unable to perform the physical tasks involved in shelter cleaning, you can still make a massive impact.

  • Time commitment: 30 to 60 minutes at any point during the day.

  • What you'll do: Sit with our rescues, brush or play with them, and give them love. Many of our cats have faced trauma; regular petting keeps them friendly and drastically increases their chances of finding a permanent, loving home.
