Welcome to Calpe Cat Shelter

A volunteer-run international team rescuing, treating, and rehoming cats in Calpe, Spain.

Our Mission

Rescuing Cats in Distress

The international team at Calpe Cat Shelter looks after both feral and abandoned domestic cats needing a home and medical treatment.

Unfortunately, hardly a day goes by without us being called upon to rescue a cat in distress. Invariably, these cats need at least a veterinary check-up and quite often medical treatment of various degrees. This is followed by a period of recuperation in our shelter or, if possible, with a loving foster family.

Current Residents: We currently care for around 30 cats within the shelter’s enclosures and look after a number of feral cats living safely on the shelter grounds.

📍 Visits are by appointment only! Please contact us to schedule a time.

Inside Our Shelter

The Main Enclosure

Where our healthy domestic cats live together and roam around freely. It features a few individual cages to safely separate cats when needed (such as mothers with newborns or rescued kittens), but we always prioritize a cage-free environment.

The Care Pen

A smaller enclosure where our FIV+ cats (those with feline immunodeficiency virus) are closely monitored and looked after.

Feral Cat Grounds

An extensive plot of land surrounding the enclosures where our resident feral cats can live safely, securely, and peacefully in the wild while still being fed and monitored by our team.

Why Your Support Matters

All of our cats are fed, watered, and their enclosures are cleaned out twice every single day by our volunteers.

Beyond basic care, we also seek to socialise our cats as much as we possibly can. They absolutely love the attention, but more importantly, regular human interaction keeps them friendly, which drastically helps us find them permanent, loving new homes.

Our ultimate aim is to sterilise all of our cats to humanely reduce the number of births in the wild. The Calpe Town Council kindly pays for the sterilisation of some of our cats. However, despite this vital help, the shelter incurs massive ongoing costs. We are entirely dependent on community support to cover food, cat litter, and most significantly, our expensive veterinary fees.

Every single euro donated keeps us operating.
